JD Design Awards 2025 – Bangalore Edition, conducted on 23rd and 24th May 2025 at Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath, was a milestone moment for the students of JD School of Design, powered by JD Institute of Fashion Technology. Focusing on future-thinking, human-centred innovation, and socially responsible design, the event was a vibrant platform where new-age interior designers brought concepts to life in meaningful, spatial stories.
Carefully curated and conceptualized by the Interior Design Department of JD School of Design, this edition was more than a showcase—it was a live conversation between academia and industry. The projects demonstrated both the academic rigor and creative nimbleness our students are taught to possess, grounded in research, functionality, sustainability, and emotional design.
What took this year’s edition to the next level was the historically high level of industry association. With more than 65+ design and lifestyle partners such as Livspace, Design Cafe, ADI, Pepperfry, Jaquar, and Signify-Philips, the event provided for in-depth interaction between professionals and students, with a unique setting for timely feedback, networking, and prospective career prospects.
Showcasing Design with Purpose
The exhibition floor featured a wide spectrum of student projects that tackled themes relevant to contemporary and future society—from biophilic co-living spaces and AI-integrated interiors to intergenerational care and modular public furniture.
Of the highlight projects, Dhruvi Jain’s “LIVENZA – Artisans Retail Hub” was one such project that revolutionised commercial interiors through the use of waste and local material to create a sensorial, sustainable retail space. Her idea embodied circular design practices that value the reuse of resources and people-first thinking.
Suman M Purohit’s “Gaumaya” dealt with reusing vacant and abandoned spaces as soulful shrines based on concepts of Panchgavya, a Vedic concept of natural living. The design laid stress on spiritual ecology and called upon users to find a connection with nature and tradition.
Sai Darshan KJ’s “Inspinity” actualized future entertainment by introducing a motorised rotating audience platform within a dome theatre, providing a 180-degree experiential viewing experience that combined performance, film, and spatial design innovation.
Monisha N and Raksha B’s “Interactive Space with Modular Seating – The Pause Wall” ventured into sensory-oriented public seating designs. The design facilitated emotional pause and haptic interaction, reacting to the demands for contemplative spaces in densely populated urban areas.
Jeffrin Jiji George’s “Beachy Bistro” redesigned a dining area with bold biophilic and coastal design elements. Taking cues from Greek island architecture, the project aimed to create a screen-free, nature-bound dining experience in the middle of Bangalore.
More group exhibits have worked on multifunctional family living, meditative spaces for elderly care, and solar power integration, reclaimed materials, and modular furniture, both illustrating the technical expertise and empathetic imagination developed at JD School of Design.
Bridging Academia and Industry
The presence of industry partners, including Livspace, Design Cafe, Pepperfry, Jaquar, ADI, and Signify, contributed significantly to the event. Not only did they validate the timeliness of the work being exhibited, butthey also indicated increased faith in JD School of Design’s pedagogy and pool of talent.
Through walkthroughs, panel discussions, and direct interaction, recruiters, design consultants, and educators understood our students’ academic processes and problem-solving methodologies. This was an entry point for many to recognise new talent that can match the rapidly changing design economy.
The event also gave students a unique chance to express their design thinking in professional environments, hear critique, and test their work against real-world standards, staying true to our promise of project-based learning and industry exposure.
A Legacy in the Making
With more than 1,000+ attendees, ranging from architects and design educators to brand leaders and students, the JD Design Awards 2025 cemented its position as a cornerstone academic and creative event in the design education space. The Bangalore edition has again benchmarked excellence in interior design education—nay, not just output but methodology too, in terms of its commitment to sustainability, culture, empathy, and integration with technology.
As JD School of Design walks the path of redefining the face of design education in India, such events as the JD Design Awards are still so important to making sure our students are heard, heard, and celebrated—not merely as students, but as tomorrow’s leaders.
